For the summer project, I created the potion bottle and the mortar and pestle that was assigned to do. How I made the mortar and pestle is by  using cylinders, for the mortar, I used the quad draw tool to get an indent look for the mortar and decreased the size of that newly added line, for the pestle I raised the middle vertex on both sides of the cylinder, I enlarged and decreased the size of the both circular edges at each end. I unwrapped the model and imported the model to substance painter and applied the textured it with a material called mortar wall. For the potion bottle, I used a pyramid and a cylinder, in which I enlarged them both. I added two edges to the top  and extended the middle edge outwards to have look of bottle top. I then combined the two polygons and unwrapped them. I imported the model into substance painter and used the glass visor material

During Life drawing sessions, what I did was learn to do one and two point perspective drawings. One point perspective is where you have one point of focus so it would there is only one point in which the objects in the image is fading into the background. Two point perspective is where there are two focus points and means the shapes along those two focus points fade into the horizon along the one of two focus points. How I did these drawings is by first creating an horizon line, then put 1 or 2 dots to represent a focus point. Then draw to lines parallel from each other from the same focus point, then make different shapes along the line, also adding a horizontal line from each vertices to give depth to the image.

From other life drawing sessions, I have learnt is perspective drawing of items. What I did was different drawings using different methods such as continuous line, blind drawing, using pastels and toning and shading. The objects I drew were objects, were I can see from my view. The techniques used to draw them was to practice as a way to help when we need to use the techniques when doing concept art or doing game art in general. When toning and shading, I had to use a different colour to represent shading to have a 3D like look to the object being drawn.

For my ideas generation, I have created my two photobashes of a science fantasy laboratory, in which it is has some technologically advanced machines but these machines contain or is studying magical/mystical objects that can affect surroundings in some unnatural and somewhat unexplainable.

For the first photobash, what I made is a lab which had tubes filled with liquid as a way to stop the supernatural energy from seeping out of the capsules. The images I have used are a sci fi laboratory, a sci fi research table, a sci fi capsule to go in hand with the science part of the science fantasy. For the fantasy images I used the images of a demonic sword, demonic axe, demonic revolver and an arcane rune in a stone. I made it so in the scene it would have research equipment and that the scene looks like that people are researching these artifacts that have some mysterious powers. I put the arcane infused rock on the table as it looks like it is being scanned for something like chemical composition or something similar. I like this design I have made because it looks like it is a very secure and safe research facility which has safety precautions such as putting demonic weapons within research tanks.

For the second photobash, I made a science fantasy laboratory in which it is different to the first one, I made it so that in the second laboratory are not as much secure with having demonic weapons inside tanks but they are suspended in mid air using a magnetic levitation to make these objects hover, even the research table uses magnetic levitation to analyse the arcane rune infused stone. The design that I went with during this is a more sophisticated but also a more liability hazard as the objects are floating in which anyone can touch or contaminate causing some problems such as possession or transfiguration causing corruption and spreading it. I like this design due to the concept of being more sophisticated looking but in turn it can be very dangerous and break some health codes in our modern day.

I made some concept art for objects that will be added to my diorama. The concept art is of weapons and runes that are of demonic and magical origins. The demonic weapons I made are to look like they are organic but they don’t make sense to the normal human in it’s design, as the weapons are made to be for creatures that are very different to a human.

The arcane runes on the other hand are based off real runes that are used for examples, I created my own new runes which are to represent different abilities that correlates to the design of the rune, they can effect the user or target. The shapes I have made when creating the new runes are vastly different from one and another, making them unique in design and very appealing, some of them concepts I have made were very unappealing and looked terrible in my opinion.

For the last piece of concept I made 3 pieces of each piece of equipment that would be in a lab, 3 different types of doors, small research boxes, large research tanks and lights. Since the diorama I plan on making has some sciencey element’s to the fantasy diorama so I decided to make some sci fi doors, research tanks and boxes and lights having of different styles and looks. These designs will help me when figuring out what would be best to put in the scene, design and atmosphere. The doors I made are supposed to have the look of an airlock/decontamination door to show the cleanliness of the diorama. The large tanks I made are to show they are to hold large objects within them. The small research boxes I have made are to show people that they are to keep small objects contained and to be observed for a chance understanding and try to replicate it. The design of the lights are to show the futuristic nature of the diorama, so for one of the designs of the I had the idea of it being on the ceiling and having long light bulbs within and have the shape of the light casing curved at the edges, the second light I designed seems more industrial and low hanging and has a large base and light bulb making it a mean there would be many of them in a room and using more space, the last light concept art I made is an upright light which is more like a lamp but has the same brightness of a ceiling light, the design of the is different as the design is on a metal rod that would be in the floor and have a design which is strange, having side protrusions in a curve upwards and a large bulb just between the curves.

These colour ideas are to show what colours I think would fit with the designs of the sketches. For the large research tank, I gave it mostly grey but added some other colours to have a it appealing and very high tech, the parts I left white is to shows that they are are windows to make it able to see the object inside. The lights are are made to show it’s metallic made design by using the the colour grey, I also used the colour yellow to show that the object is a light bulb. For the door, I used the colours grey and black to show the futuristic and metallic look, I also gave the zigzag pattern a little bit darker to show it is indented, the white spaces in the door is also a way to show that they are windows. The scythe I created has been coloured to make it seem organic and very demonic, as if they all fit together naturally, the colours I used are to show the organic nature of the object, the dark pale to show the skin, red to show blood and muscle and dark palely grey to show the bones are slightly older in age. The arcane rune I made is coloured to be quite bright to show that it is supposed to illuminate, as most runes have a glow to them.

I have made another colour ideas for the designs I have made for my diorama I am planning on making. For the arcane rune, what I colour I made it was red, I used this colour as it is an opposite to the colour of being luminescent green  like my first design was, it gives the look a more sinister and fearful look to it instead of the nice and calming look it has. For my demonic scythe design has gone for a more decayed and gross look due to it’s green decayed look, I made the colour of the bones look old and in bad shape, the colour of the bone being more brown colour to show the brittle and used status it has on it especially on the teeth of the scythe. I made the colour for the lights much different to the average colour I did to the last one, I made the colours much brighter and more neon in design since the colour of the light casing is blue and the colour of the light, when it is on, as orange being quite close to the colour yellow which is a common depiction of the colour of light. For the door, I made the colour mostly blue with bits of yellow on an indented part. I made it a blue and and yellow colour for the door because the colour makes it more pleasing to look at and just be a brighter design than the original door design. The last colour design I did for this page is the large research tank is that I made it more colourful, having the main base as blue, the side locks as red and the top pipes are yellow, also a diamond shaped lock in the middle of the base being purple. This also goes with the more appealing colourful look than the more bleak, mechanical look the last design had. These colour ideas are very useful as I can take and use ideas for colours that I put into my final design idea when modelled and textured.

For my final part of my colour idea I changed the colours for the last time. For the arcane rune this time, I used the colour purple as it is more of a mysterious and strange colour meaning that no one knows if the rune is good or bad. The light I did a recolour of the light as well, where the casing is a light green and the light bulb having a purple colour to show that the light can be used as an ultraviolet based light, to show scientific in use it has. For the demonic scythe, I made the the scythe blade a putrid yellow to show the disgusting and sickly hardened meat that is now used for a demons weapon, the handle and teeth blades are red to show that the bone are covered in blood of other demons or the people slain from this mysterious and disturbing  weapon. The large research tank has had recolour, having yellow, red, blue and green, having a yellow as part of the main base, having the red side hatches on the research tank, I made the central diamond lock the colour green. For the vertical pipes on top of the research tanks. I made these colour choices as a way to experiment with the different colours I have used so that when I make the final model with textures I apply to it.

I have made two level block outs for the diorama that I am planning develop for this unit. Both of the block out are supposed to have a look of a laboratory, which will have the demonic and arcane objects inside the the tanks and boxes. For one of the block outs what I had a large flat box on the right to show that is supposed to show it’s a door, I made a basic table by using a few cubes, I also added stuff onto the table such as cubes and a plane to show they are small boxes and a piece of paper. I made a box and without one face to show the inside of the the diorama block out, I also created a basic block out of a tank by combining torus and a cylinder, also extended the central vertex upwards, I added 6 to show that are alot of object contained. I made a light by combining a cube and 4 halves of a cylinder on each side of the cube except the top and bottom.

For the second block out what I did is, was that I moved objects around such as the door block and the tanks, I also rotated the light to a sideways view instead of the original viewing side. I got rid of half the block out tanks and spread the remaining three in three of the corners of the block out. Not much has changed but what I believe most suits the for a room this size with the change of amount of objects and change of location certain objects.

Out of both the two block outs I have created I prefer the second block out, it is because that the environment has more space and the rearrangement has the look of being more tidy than stuffed and tight. I will base my final diorama on that idea but also having minor changes to the design such as placement of objects and adding or subtracting certain objects.

After creating the dioramas, what I have done is that I took a screenshot and did an outline around both of the diorama block outs, then coloured them in. I first did the first block out I made. I took the screen shot of the block out from an angle and imported the image into photoshop to be traced and coloured over. For the room of the block out, I coloured it a light grey to show it will be a cleanly environment and that the room is metallic. For the table I made it a dark grey to make it stand out from the room and, I did the same to the where the door would be, which is why I made it a light er grey than the walls. I made the light on the ceiling dark grey like the table and yellow to show it is on. For the tanks, I have made them white to show that they are a transparent object.

For the second block out, I created a coloured version of the block out as well. I took the screenshot of the block out from front on perspective and imported it to photoshop from where I did an outline then coloured over it, I mostly used the colour grey to show that the the materials that the objects are, are metallic, and the white to indicate that it is glass, I also used yellow as a way to show that the object is lit up. For the most part, I used the same colours for objects but I changed the shading of each of them so they have a slightly different look to the last object drawn and coloured.
